All about the trip
On our Plitvice Lakes tour from Split, you will experience why Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s best natural spectacle, and exactly why it’s enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
With its 16 lakes, travertine barriers, Croatia’s tallest waterfall, and limestone canyons, Plitvice Lakes are unforgettable – and we’re certain you’ll keep the image in your mind, and hard drive, until the end of time.
No matter when you choose to visit Plitvice Lakes – the spring, summer, autumn or winter – a fascinating day out in nature awaits.
Whether you’re trying to beat the summer crowds and heat or hoping to chase the gushing waterfalls after a spring rain, Plitvice transforms with each season, creating an extraordinary experience for its visitors. Leave the cars and concrete behind – it’s your time to be one with nature.
After we pick you up at one of our predefined locations with our air-conditioned minibus, we’ll begin our drive to Plitvice Lakes. Not only will you be cool and comfortable. you'll enjoy the beautiful scenery.
We arrive at Plitvice Lakes around 11:00. You’ll want to start by taking a deep breath – this park is famed for its sixteen lakes that are interconnected by cascades and waterfalls – and you get to enjoy them all.
The tour begins by exploring the series of twelve interconnected lakes called the Upper Lakes (Gornja Jezera), which are intertwined by breathtaking waterfalls and deposited travertine barriers that transform due to the strength of the water. The lakes also change color depending on the mineral composition of the water and the microorganisms living in them, as well as the angle at which the sun hits their surface. This process ensures that the Plitvice Lakes are continually evolving.
We’ll cross footbridges and natural trails that twirl through the grandeur of the park, while the sounds of spouting waterfalls wrap around us. You get the chance to be ultimately one with nature. And you won’t be sorry.
We’ll continue making our way through the fascinating landscape of the park until we reach the boat that will transport us to the Lower Lakes (Donja Jezera).
The Lower Plitvice Lakes boasts four lakes that are rooted in the limestone canyon. This magical world of natural limestone dams, which are built by deposits of calcium carbonate, even as the flow of water erodes them, is an ideal blend of unique geological features you’ll rarely find elsewhere on earth.
The climax of the Plitvice tour is undoubtedly the Great Waterfall (Veliki Slap), which is also known as the tallest waterfall in Croatia.
The impressive panorama of rocky cliffs and lush forests, coupled with the roar of the waterfalls reveals the natural beauty and magnificence of Plitvice Lakes National Park.
After you’ve absorbed all that the Plitvice Lakes environment has to offer, you’ll have the chance to savor in the local cuisine at one of the traditional family restaurants. And if you’re not hungry? Don’t fret – this part of the tour is optional. If you’d prefer, you can spend more time exploring the park before we make our way back to Split.
