All about the trip
Most of the tourist visit Sharm El Sheikh for the rich marine life of the Red Sea, luxurious hotels and glitzy nightlife, but did you know that Sharm El Sheikh has been a significant city for visitors for thousands of years thanks to its strategic position on the trade route between Africa and Asia? Its name translates into "Bay of Sheikhs" but locals know it as "City of Peace" due to the high number of peace conferences that take place here. Get a taste of religious tolerance, old and modern architecture, and true Egyptian life many people don't get a chance to experience.
Get picked up by an air-conditioned vehicle from your requested meeting point. Our first place of interest will be the al-Noor district of the city, where we will visit the Heavenly Cathedral. Finished in 2010, this new Catholic cathedral is well worth visiting for its stunning architecture and beautiful murals depicting scenes from the Bible. Your guide will tell you all about the history of Christianity in Egypt.
The next stop in Al-Noor will be Al-Mostafa Mosque. Learn about the style and architecture of the mosque and about Islam itself and then continue to Al-Fanar lighthouse.
The lighthouse at Al-Fanar is located right at the edge of Om El Sid Hill and offers some of the most stunning views over the Sharm coastline and the Gulf of Aqaba. Sit down for a moment, relax and take in the panoramas. You can find here also an amazing peace memorial. The design is impressive and offers a great picture opportunity.
We will move then to the Old Market and Al Sahaba Mosque. Al Sahaba Mosque of Sharm El Sheikh is made by Ottoman architecture. It is considered the most important mosque built within the decade.
If you wish to experience local Egyptian life, then the shopping area of the Old Market is the best place for our final stop. Feel free to mingle with the locals and do some shopping.
We will finish the tour at about 18:00 and your guide will accompany you back to your requested meeting point.
