All about the trip
Join us for low-impact whale watching from the charming village of Hjalteyri, a well-kept secret in the heart of North Iceland and only a 15-minute drive from Akureyri.
Surround yourself in Icelandic history and visit the old village of Hjalteyri, which has a population of roughly 40 inhabitants. We will be sailing aboard our traditional Icelandic oak boat called, 'Sæborg', as we search across the calm seas of Eyjafjörður looking for whales.
Much like our classic whale watching tour, we will be aboard the traditional Icelandic oak boat, Sæborg. We begin the tour by sailing out to Puffin Island, located only a short distance from Húsavík. Once there we will spend our time admiring the 100,000 puffins who call this island home. They really are beautiful creatures and the sight of so many of them all on one island really is something to behold.
Afterwards, we will head out to the best whale watching areas and spend the rest of the tour admiring these amazing animals.
This sustainable approach to whale watching, combined with our professional crew's knowledge of where to find the whales, will ensure that you have an unforgettable day of admiring these incredible creatures in their natural habitat. As an added treat, after a day of whale watching, hot chocolate and cinnamon buns will be served on board as we make our way home. Not a bad way to warm-up after being out in the Icelandic elements!
